Description

Today's NK Dinamo was founded on 26th of April 1911 as PHŠK Građanski, or Prvi Hrvatski Š;portski Klub Građanski (First Croatian Sport Club Građanski, while Građanski means "civilis" or something that belongs to the city people), and it's one of the oldest football clubs in Croatia (HAŠK is the oldest football club in the city of Zagreb founded in 1903 (Currently plays in Croatian 3rd league, section west), few months before NK Zagreb in the same year (Currently plays in PHNL), second is HŠK Concordia founded in 1906 (dissolved by the communist regime in 1945), and outside Zagreb in Croatia oldest clubs are our biggest rivals HNK Hajduk Split founded also in 1911 and NK Slaven Belupo founded in 1912). Under the name of PHŠK Građanski we were champions of "Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenes" three times (1923, 1926, 1928), champions of "Kindom of Yugoslavia" two times (1937, 1940) and once champions of Independent State of Croatia (1943). As communists gained power in Croatia, club was renamed from PHŠK Građanski to NK Dinamo Zagreb. As NK Dinamo Zagreb we won 4 championships of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1948, 1954, 1958, 1982) with 5 second places (all 5 times less than 3 points less than the champions, pretty politicaly edited), 7 national cups (1951, 1960, 1963, 1965, 1969, 1980, 1983), at that times called Marshal cup (in honour of Yugoslav president Marshal Tito) and only international trophy - in 1967 the Fairs Cup, later called UEFA Cup, today Europa League. Dinamo became more than a name and a club during Croatian Spring in 1971 when they changed the club emblem to the one we have today (just with a little red star near letter d) inspired by Građanski emblem and became first and till the end of SFRY the only club in the league with Croatian red and white checks. After the break up of SFRY, Croatian president dr. Franjo Tuđman changed the name from NK Dinamo Zagreb to FC Croatia Zagreb in 1991. Under the name of FC Croatia Zagreb we won 6 PHNL titles (1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000) and 4 national cups (1994, 1996, 1997, 1998). Dr. Franjo Tuđman died in 1999, and on Valentines's day in the year of 2000, FC Croatia Zagreb changed name back to NK Dinamo Zagreb, name under which the club became symbol of Croatian struggle for independence during the dark communist times of Yugoslavia. Since 2000, under the name of NK Dinamo Zagreb we won 5 PHNL champion titles (2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) and 6 Croatian Cup winner titles (2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009) which makes us the best Croatian football club with total of 20 national championship winner titles (champions of 5 countries - Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenes, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Independent State of Croatia, Socialst Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Republic of Croatia), 17 national cup winner titles (cup winners of two countries - SFRY and Republic of Croatia), 3 national supercup titles (2002, 2003, 2006), not less than 6 double crowns (championship and cup winners in the same year - 1996, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2008, 2009) and only Croatian international football trophy - Intercities Fairs Cup in 1967.
Compared to our biggest rivals and 2nd most succesful Croatian football club HNK Hajduk Split, we have 5 national championship winner titles more, 4 national cup winner titles more, 2 national supercup winner titles less but 4 double crowns more and the international trophy, something they have never won.

Još se Srbi "partizani" i "četnici" glože
A Hrvat slavi, brani svoje heroje, simbole
Svih godina je "modrima" na grudima šahovnica
Gde su "Partizanu", "Zvezdi" naša četiri ocila.
